Gas distribution company SGN is working to upgrade its gas network in the Tichborne Down area of Alresford.

I & G Contractors Ltd began working on SGN’s behalf on January 6. It will be working Monday to Friday and on Saturdays as required in the following roads:

New Farm Road, until approximately January 20. To ensure the safety of everyone around the work site, SGN needed to temporarily close this road between its junctions with Perins Close and Dorian Grove. A signed diversion is in place and access is being maintained for residents and businesses.

Grange Road, from January 13 for approximately 16 weeks. SGN will need to temporarily close this road to complete its work. A signed diversion will be in place and access will be maintained for residents and businesses.

Salisbury Road, from January 13 to February 21. One side of the road will be closed so that SGN can work there, and drivers should pass on the other side when it is safe to do so.

South Road junction with Grange Road, from February 17 for approximately five weeks. SGN will need to close this junction. A signed diversion will be in place and access will be maintained for residents and businesses.

Tichborne Down, including the junction with Sun Lane, from May 26 until the beginning of February 2026. SGN will need to temporarily close the whole road. A signed diversion will be in place and access will be maintained for residents and businesses.

SGN spokesperson Bradley Barlow said: “We appreciate this work may be disruptive for local residents and road users and we assure you we’ll be doing everything we can to complete these works as quickly and as safely as possible.
