AN artist’s impression of Alton’s proposed new sports centre has been released by operator Everyone Active.

If the plans are approved by East Hampshire District Council (EHDC), work on the site is due to begin in November, with a projected completion date of autumn 2019.

The centre will be built on land adjacent to the existing site, which will remain open throughout the building of the new facility to avoid any gaps in service.

In the meantime, Alton Town Council will host an open council forum to discuss the sports centre next Wednesday, October 11, at Alton Community Centre. It starts at 7pm.

According to town clerk Leah Coney, the evening will include a presentation on the reserved matters planning application, an opportunity to chat with councillors and officers from EHDC and Alton Town Council, and a public question-and-answer session.
