A man has been charged with attempted murder after a serious assault in Petersfield.

Police were called just before 12.15pm on Thursday, March 14 to reports that a 62-year-old man had been assaulted on Cranford Road, and had subsequently been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The man remains in hospital with serious injuries but is in a stable condition.

Martin Copeland, aged 58, of Cranford Road in Petersfield, was subsequently arrested and has been charged with attempted murder.

Copeland has been remanded in custody to appear at Portsmouth Crown Court on April 15.
