Alton College is a campus renowned for its incredible esports programme.
From Alton’s Rocket League team securing the title of Division 1 champions, to a £1.25 million investment in Alton’s esports facilities, this department has gone from strength to strength.
A lecturer in the esports department, Lizzie Squires, has been selected as a scholastic fellow for the Network of Academic and Scholastic Esports Federations (NASEF).
Lizzie was the only fellow chosen from the UK this year for NASEF, a world-renowned non-profit organisation with the goal of using esports as a vessel for students to develop critical skills across STEAM-related industries and subjects.
NASEF also prides itself on its commitment to the development of more social and emotional skills, such as collaboration, communication and problem solving.
Lizzie said: "I am really thrilled and excited to be a part of an exclusive international fellowship that connects educators and passionate people in the industry I work in.”
NASEF chose Lizzie as a result of her dedication and commitment to youth development in the industry, as well as her proactivity in looking at career opportunities and pathways linked with esports.
Lizzie added: “NASEF has given me the opportunity to expand my network as well as design a capstone project, focusing on STEM careers in the form of esports and gaming suitable for secondary schools in Hampshire.
“This project will be supported and guided by current students at HSDC, helping to design and tailor a programme that is inclusive and relevant to young women in industries that really need more representation. It's going to be an exciting year ahead."
Lizzie’s project will become part of NASEF’s Community Library, a platform used by educators globally.
Her achievement is a testament to her qualities as an esports lecturer and Alton College’s commitment to providing students with an incredible variety of courses.
