An Alton charity is on cloud nine thanks to the fundraising exploits of quizzers and a pensioner with a head for heights.
A recent quiz night organised and hosted by the High Street branch of Newbury Building Society raised £935 for Dementia Friendly Alton.
More than 60 tickets were snapped up with winning team “The Pioneers” providing answers to most of Bill Tigg’s questions during the September 13 event at the Assembly Rooms.
The event also included Greek-style mezze boards and a raffle featuring prizes from local firms including Specsavers, Cassidy’s Cocktail Bar, Dill Café, Garthowen Garden Centre and Avenue Nurseries.
Volunteers from Dementia Friendly also helped out with Julie Harness, Alton branch manager, calling the quiz a “brilliant evening” and “absolute success”.
She added: “We had lovely feedback both on the night and lots of people asking if we will run the event again.
“I am delighted by the result and hugely grateful to the team here and to everyone who came along to support our amazing charity partner.”
The donation wasn’t the only £900 handout the charity received in September as a brave birthday girl went to great heights to raise a similar sum for the good cause.
June Fenn also raised £930 by completing a sponsored walk across an aqueduct in North Wales as part of her 90th birthday celebrations.
Dementia Friendly Alton co-ordinators Karen Murell wanted to herald the “champion fundraiser” while also thanking the team at Newbury Building Society for their amazing quiz night.
