All roads led to Alton last weekend as an annual celebration of motoring came of age.
More than a century of motor transport was celebrated last Saturday as Alton’s annual Classic Car Show took over the town centre.
The 21st annual show organised by the Alton Lions Club featured more than 200 vehicles from the early 20th century pioneers to present day supercars.
This year’s show paid special homage to the emergency services and the vehicles associated with their vital and challenging work.
The event held in support of Young Lives vs Cancer attracted hundreds of people from petrolheads and vintage vehicle enthusiasts to the curious.
The Hampshire Police & Fire Brigade Trust showcased fire engines and police cars from a bygone era while Stateside was well represented as South Coast Cop Cars brought a fleet of US ‘law enforcement’ vehicles to the show.
Chevrolets, Triumphs, Mustangs and an immaculate Jaguar E-Type were among the vehicles that wowed the crowds while younger visitors loved seeing the cars from the Disney movie of the same name.
“They joined an historic spectacle, made up of vehicles dating back to the early part of the last century, each one lovingly restored and providing a glimpse of the history of the automobile around the globe,” said a spokesperson for the Lions.
There was also plenty of entertainment with performances by the Alton Rock Choir, Marianne Accordion Artiste and the Dementia Friendly Singing Group along with live music from Band X, Drunken Uncle, Teddy’s Jazz Band and Blue Eyed Soul.
