A Lioness should be full of pride after a roar-some spell as the president of an Alton fundraising group.

The Alton Lions Club recently held their official changeover at The White Hart in Holybourne with John Mill replacing Moira Baker as the group’s figurehead.

One of Moira’s last acts was to present Gary Harvey with the Lion of the Year award for his tireless work at the club.

Some members also recently visited Alton’s Men Shed to see the professional table the Lions donated £1,000 towards.

The table is now in regular use at their Anstey Park workshop with their chairman, Gordon Anderson, offering the Lions “sincere thanks” for the donation.

He said: “This wonderful gift of a professional band saw is a great asset to have in our workshop enabling our volunteer craftsmen to address the more complex demands that are coming our work while working on community projects around Alton.”
