Aldershot & Farnham (A&F) Hockey Club’s ladies’ first team slipped to a 4-2 defeat at Bromley & Beckenham in the South East Women’s Premier Division.
A&F started well and were determined to bring their midfield into the game. This worked well with Hannah Wrench and Tammy Cherry finding themselves available.
Bromley & Beckenham were sharp and were quick on the break, and put A&F under pressure.
A&F countered well with Sophia Fielding and Sophie Edwards making some good inroads into the Bromley & Beckenham defence and Charlotte Clive and Eloise White making some good runs. Edwards received a green card from overzealous defending up front.
Bromley & Beckenham broke away and beat the A&F defence to slot the ball away and take the lead.
A&F went straight back at the hosts and won a stroke that was saved. This was followed by a well-worked move down the left by Edwards and Fielding, and the ball was passed across the face of the goal for Emily Desmond to calmly slot the ball away to make it 1-1.
The sides were on level terms at half-time, but Bromley & Beckenham regained the lead in the second half from a well-worked corner. The Shots then went on the attack and Phoebe Bryant’s fine pass found Edwards, who crossed to Fiona Stewart who made it 2-2.
Bromley & Beckenham responded strongly and regained the lead after a turnover in the Shots’ D. The home side then scored their fourth goal soon afterwards to open up a two-goal lead.
The Shots pushed forward and tried to get back in the game. Edwards won the Shots a corner, but they failed to make the most of it and they ultimately fell to defeat.
Next up for Aldershot & Farnham’s ladies’ first team is a trip to Woking in the South East Women’s Premier Division on Saturday, November 2.
