Farnham Town manager Paul Johnson was happy with his side’s second-half performance after they won 3-1 at Tunbridge Wells in the extra preliminary round of the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday.
Town fell behind in the 25th minute when Tunbridge Wells skipper James White thumped his finish into the roof of the net from close range.
Johnson’s side got back on level terms before half-time, with Mark Waters prodding home on 41 minutes to make it 1-1 after good work from Jack Dean on the right.
Farnham took control of the game after the break and deservedly went ahead in the 68th minute when Owen Dean fired a volley home into the back of the net.
Substitute Duarte Martins sealed Farnham’s place in the next round when he rifled home on 95 minutes to make it 3-1.
Farnham will host Isthmian League South East Division outfit Sittingbourne at the Memorial Ground in the preliminary round of the FA Cup on Saturday, August 17 (3pm).
“Tunbridge Wells caused us a few problems in the first half, but we addressed that and controlled the game in the second half,” said Johnson.
“It was an awful pitch but the most important thing was to get through.”
Next up for Farnham is the Coxbridge derby and a mouthwatering trip to Westfield Lane to face local rivals Badshot Lea in their opening Isthmian League South Central Division match of the season on Saturday (3pm).
“We’re looking forward to a big crowd on Saturday and it will be good for the new players in the group to get used to that,” said Johnson.
“We’ll do some work on what to expect from Badshot Lea at training on Thursday. They’ve had a big turnover of players this summer, but we know their front three are a threat.”
