A footballing family has netted £260 for an Alton youth centre with a fundraising game of two halves.
Figures from Manor Colts FC raised the sum for the Kings Arms through a tombola with the oversized cheque being handed over on Wednesday (May 29).
Around a dozen local firms backed their drive with prizes including a free MOT and soccer school classes to a picnic with alpacas.
The Manor Colts handover is as traditional as an FA Cup Final as the community-minded club nominates a charity to support every year.
Last year’s donation went to CCLL: The Helping Hand for Ukraine but the club were keen to support a town cause this time round, with the Kings Arms being a popular choice.
“We decided to keep it local this year, especially as a few of the Manor Colts players use the Kings Arms and come here after school,” said the club’s prospective chair, Danielle Gray.
The club raised £520 altogether with half the sum going to the Kings Arms to support its good work with youngsters aged 11 to 18 in the community. The centre’s programme manager, Dom Clarke, thanked the football club for their donation and support.
He said: “This money will boost our day-to-day work, supporting young people and helping them to be the best they can be.
“This is a place where they can make new friends and call their own. What we do is a mixture of supporting young people and giving them more opportunities.”
