Crowds gathered at The Cairn war memorial in Alton High Street for the Remembrance Service on Sunday.

The parade from Market Square was directed by parade marshal, former regimental sergeant major and town crier Dave Parsons, and led by the 2nd Alton Boys’ Brigade band.

Comprising serving personnel, veterans, cadets from 3 (Alton) Platoon and 613 (Alton) Squadron, Boys’ and Girls’ Brigades, Scouts and Guides, it was greeted by town mayor Cllr Annette Eyre, Cllr Graham Hill and Cllr Andrew Joy.

Revd Canon Andrew Micklefield led the service. More than 50 wreaths were laid, including from Ernest George Horlock VC’s family and representatives of the armed forces, veterans, Royal British Legion, police, fire brigade, Lions, Rotary, Community Association, Masonic Centre, Women’s Institute, Townswomen’s Guild and sports clubs, plus Amery Hill and Eggar’s pupils.

After the two minutes’ silence there was a flypast by an RAF Odiham Chinook. At the end of the service the parade marched back to Market Square to be dismissed to applause.
