Newbury Building Society has showcased its firm support for an Alton charity by handing over an early Christmas present.

The High Street branch has raised £5,275 for its charity Dementia Friendly Alton over the last year through a calendar of fundraising events.

A special quiz in the Assembly Rooms alone raised £900 with branch manager, Julie Harness, promising the good cause more of the same in years to come.

She said: “I am delighted by the result and hugely grateful to the team here as well as everyone in Alton who has supported us.

“This is our first full year of being partnered with Dementia Friendly Alton and it has been fantastic to see our members embrace them as our new charity partner.”

The charity runs a variety of events and activities for people with dementia and also collaborates with local businesses and organisations to promote a more dementia-friendly society locally.
