Businesses in Alton will be compensated sufficiently after Gerard Butler and the Greenland Migration crew halted trading on Market Street on Tuesday.
In order to film many businesses had to close down for a few days for them to be turned into a post-apocalyptic Liverpool. Many of the shops were boarded up, temporarily graffiti and made to look worn.
A spokesperson for the production said “We want to express our appreciation to the businesses and residents of Market Street, Market Square, and the surrounding areas. Your warm hospitality and flexibility in accommodating our filming schedule made all the difference in creating an authentic and vibrant backdrop for the film. Without your patience and enthusiasm, this project would not have been possible. “
Businesses were given 4-6 weeks’ notice on filming with several meetings between them and the production companies location managers.
At the meeting around £5,000 of compensation was offered to businesses for the filming to be allowed to take place. This more than covers the loss of the days trading for most business on the street.
A spokesperson for the Market Hotel commented on more filming coming to the street he said:
“We would highly encourage it because yes there was a bit of a distraction but I think that any attraction to Alton is good for the whole town.”
“Everyone of the main characters spent time in the hotel and everyone of them was very nice and there were no divas”
The cast spent a lot of time in the Market Hotel Restaurant with the Green Room, and make-team all being housed within the hotel and restaurant.
Many businesses on the street were very happy with the way the production company and staff went about business and most look forward to seeing the film release in 2025.
