Petersfield slipped to a 42-26 defeat at Bournemouth in Regional Two South Central.

Bournemouth won a penalty early on when Brad Caparo was penalised for holding on.

The hosts chose to kick at goal and went 3-0 up.

Less than a minute from the restart Bournemouth infringed and a long kick to touch for a penalty lineout had Field deep inside the hosts’ half.

Dan Sargent secured the ball and with the forwards forming a maul around him Field drove to the line.

Sargent released the ball, and it was passed to Liam Perkins who charged for the try line.

Nick Blumlein added the conversion to put Field 7-3 up.

Bournemouth then attacked Petersfield’s five-metre line and recycled the ball to run round Field’s defence and score a converted try.

The hosts scored their second try when their left winger went on an angled run from halfway to score between the posts.

Bournemouth then won lineout ball and went past the retreating Petersfield defence to score their third try.

The hosts then scored their fourth try to seal the try bonus point and go 31-7 up.

Caparo was injured in a clumsy tackle that was judged dangerous, and the offending Bournemouth player was sent off to reduce the hosts to 14 players.

Field made their numerical advantage count when Perkins dotted down for a converted try.

Petersfield’s Will Mathews received a yellow card for holding on just before half-time and Bournemouth converted the penalty.

The hosts kicked a penalty in the opening minute of the second half and then added an unconverted try to go 42-14 up.

Petersfield scored their third try when Joe Knowles burrowed over from close quarters.

Sargent sealed the try bonus point for Field late on, and Blumlein added the extras.

Petersfield will host Guildford at Penns Place on Saturday, March 1.
