FARNHAM Roller Hockey Club’s under-13 side overcame an early start to show how much they have progressed with a strong showing at a tournament in Kent.
The young battlers took on four teams from host club Herne Bay on Sunday, winning three of them and being edged out by the odd goal in the other.
In the first game, three goals from Flora Fergie-Woods and one from Lelani Petzer underlined Farnham’s dominance as they beat Herne Bay United A 4-1.
The second game was much closer and, despite a hat-trick from Jack Webber, Farnham were undone by a late goal as Herne Bay seconds won a thriller 6-5.
Game three, against Herne Bay firsts, was a frustrating affair as Lexie Gosnell and Petzer were repatedly thwarted by the home goalkeeper before Farnham did finally break through for a narrow 1-0 win.
And Farnham finished the tournament on a high with a 5-2 win over Herne Bay United B. Fergie-Woods got Farnham off to a flying start while Webber and Petzer were also on target.
A club spokesman said: “It’s a fantastic start to the season as two years ago Farnham would have been unlikely to win a single game against any of the Herne Bay teams.
“Lexie, Lani and Flora’s team play and skills are going from strength to strength due to regular national training sessions in Peterborough and a recent intensive training week in Portugal. It shows not only their love of the game, but also their dedication and determination.”
The club runs sessions for children and adults in Farnham and Bordon each week. The first session is free and equipment is provided. Call Adam on 07979 505878.
