THE annual golf tournament run by Alton Lions Club in aid of Cardiac Rehab defied the Covid odds and went ahead as planned at Test Valley.
Despite the challenges of the pandemic, the competition - the 14th - attracted 17 teams, who raised more than £1,500 for the charity.
Organising committee spokesman Derek Shaw said it was "a very close-run competition" with the EGGS (Elderly Gentlemen’s Golf Society) Spin-offs - who play regularly at Worldham - taking the trophy with 129 points.
They were just three points ahead of We Talk a Good Game.
The highest individual score of the day was recorded by Mike Isley with an impressive 45 points, with Teresa Frost the highest scoring lady with 37 points.
Mike Heels and Denise Liddle took the nearest-the-pin prize on the fifth, while Karen Frost was closest to the hole in two on the 16th, and Neil Frost nearest the pin in two on the eighth.
The straightest players of the day were David Marshall and Mags Raggett, who were nearest the line on the tenth.
The money raised will help continue Lions’ support for the Cardiac Rehab Centre, located behind Alton Sports Centre in Chawton Park Road, and its cardiac rehabilitation programmes.
Alton Lions thanked all the golfers, who they are hoping to welcome back for next year’s event at Test Valley on or around the second Wednesday in August.
Thanks go also to the Test Valley club for their help, the sponsors, and to those who donated raffle prizes.
