Petersfield Town manager Connor Hoare and assistant manager Callum Glen were delighted with their side after the Rams produced a superb performance to beat Baffins Milton Rovers 3-1 in the Wessex League Premier Division on Saturday.
The Rams took the lead in the 16th minute at Love Lane when Kieran Alcock flashed the ball across goal for Tommy Tierney to fire home from close range.
Tierney turned provider two minutes later when he cut the ball back to Matty Dougan, who found the bottom corner.
The visitors pulled a goal back in the 41st minute when Rams keeper Ellis Grant punched the ball into his own net from a Baffins corner, but Petersfield sealed the three points on 55 minutes when Tierney scored his second of the afternoon.
“It was our best performance since we’ve been here,” said Glen. “For 90 minutes we were at it against quality opposition.
“I thought we were the much better side. We dominated the whole game and were unlucky to concede. It was a bit nervy when it goes to 2-1, so it was good to get that third one. We deserved it.
“You could see the confidence in the lads – they were confident and wanted the ball. The football we played was exceptional and showed our dominance. I thought we could have potentially had a couple more goals.”
The Rams were quick out of the blocks and stamped their authority on the game early on, and Hoare was delighted with his side’s quick start.
“The amount of energy we had – considering the shift we put in on Tuesday night – to be able to do that and put in the exact same performance is a big credit to the boys,” said Hoare.
“The important thing to do when you’re playing against teams who you know are good and do have quality is to put maximum pressure on all the time because it allows you to shock them from the start of the game and let them know what they’re in for.
“We had good composure in front of goal and a real killer instinct to take our chances when we had them.”
