Farnham Town had to settle for a point as they drew 1-1 at home to Ascot United in the Isthmian League South Central Division.

Owen Dean’s first-half goal was cancelled out by Anas Igozouln’s penalty as the points were shared in front of a crowd of 806 at The Memorial Ground.

The visitors were quick out of the traps and nearly took the lead in the first minute when Khalid Simmo’s left-foot shot was well blocked by Farnham keeper Hugo Sobte.

Farnham created their first chance of the afternoon on five minutes when Darryl Sanders got on the end of a long ball forward but saw his poked effort well saved by Ascot keeper Mark Scott.

Ascot went close to breaking the deadlock in the 12th minute when Ben Harris’ diving header at the back post went just over the bar.

Town produced a free-flowing move on 23 minutes which ended with Giovanni Palmer fizzing a pass to Harry Cooksley on the edge of the box, and Cooksley’s right-foot shot went just wide of the left-hand post.

Farnham took the lead in first-half stoppage time when Cooksley slipped a pass inside to Dean, who took a touch before clinically drilling his right-foot shot into the far bottom left-hand corner.

Dean nearly scored a second before half-time but his right-foot shot from a tight angle went just wide of the far post.

The second half got off to a tight start, but Town nearly doubled their advantage in the 65th minute when Jordan Gallagher’s powerful right-foot shot went just over the bar.

Substitute Adam Liddle got in behind the Ascot defence on 71 minutes but his ball across the box towards Gallagher was well cleared.

The visitors won a penalty in the 73rd minute, and Igozouln sent Sobte the wrong way from the spot as he calmly rolled his penalty into the bottom right-hand corner of the net.

Farnham had a good chance to regain the lead on 80 minutes when Jack Marney’s superb cross picked out Liddle, but his header went wide of the far post.

Town had a golden chance to win the game in the 85th minute when Dean got in behind and squared the ball to Liddle, but his shot was well blocked by Scott.

Liddle turned provider two minutes later when he set the ball for Dean, who fizzed his shot wide of the near post.

Town skipper Ryan Kinnane then tried his luck from distance on 90 minutes, but his powerful strike was well tipped behind by Scott.

Neither side were able to find a winner in stoppage time and the points were shared.

Next up for Farnham is a trip to Hartley Wintney in the Isthmian League South Central Division on Boxing Day (3pm kick-off).
