Aldershot Town extended their unbeaten run to four games in all competitions with a 0-0 draw at home to Southend United in the National League.
The Shots nearly got off to the perfect start in the second minute when Kai Corbett beat Southend keeper Collin Andeng-Ndi to the ball and tried to square it to Jack Barham, but Shrimpers defender Adam Crowther raced back and slid in to clear the danger.
Southend went close to taking the lead on ten minutes when Oli Coker’s shot from distance hit the side netting.
The visitors continued to look a threat and nearly scored in the 20th minute when Coker’s cross picked out Josh Walker in the box, but his header was straight at Shots keeper Marcus Dewhurst.
The Shrimpers created another chance a minute later when Noor Husin dragged his left-foot shot wide of the right-hand post.
The visitors created another good opportunity on 26 minutes when James Morton’s free kick picked out Gus Scott-Morriss, but he headed over the bar.
Southend continued to press after the break and went close on 54 minutes when Joe Gubbins’ left-wing cross picked out Scott-Morriss and his header was superbly pushed away by Dewhurst.
The visitors went close again five minutes later when Aribim Pepple rolled the ball back to Coker, who fired wide of the far post.
Substitute Jack Bridge was next to try his luck for the Shrimpers in the 63rd minute when his low shot was well held by Dewhurst at his near post.
Southend continued to press and Scott-Morriss’ 67th-minute cross picked out Walker, who headed wide at the near post.
The visitors went close again on 77 minutes when Morton’s corner found substitute Macauley Bonne, but his header was well held by Dewhurst.
Bonne had another good opportunity three minutes later when he headed wide from Scott-Morriss’ inviting cross.
The Shrimpers continued to probe and Scott-Morriss headed straight at Dewhurst at the far post in the 82nd minute.
Neither side were able to find a breakthrough and the points were shared in front of a crowd of 2,557 at the EBB Stadium.
