Rowledge crashed to a 118-run defeat at Hook & Newnham Basics in Division One of the Southern Premier Cricket League on Saturday.

Early excellent top-order batting from the Hook batters and a rain-affected Duckworth Lewis target condemned Rowledge to a third consecutive defeat.

Winning the toss and batting, Hook openers Harry Warner and Sam Lockwood made hay on a good track. When Lockwood fell to Will Ryman (two for 42) for 50 the score had rattled along to 89.

Matt Buckingham was caught and bowled by overseas player Justin Felsch for 36 as Rowledge fought back strongly.

However, opener Warner (95) built a fine innings and when he finally fell to Will Ryman he had put the hosts in a commanding position at 244 for six. Ollie Ryman took five for 56 for Rowledge as Hook finished on 265 for nine.

The weather turned at tea and the chase went from 266 in 50 overs to 240 in 33 overs. The loss of Max Martin in the first over started a procession of batters back to the pavilion.

It was only Felsch (55) who put any sort of an innings together. Ryan Littlewood (15) and Will Ryman (13) were the only other batters to reach double figures as the visitors were bowled out for 121. Charlie Neville (four for 26) was the pick of the Hook attack.

Rowledge will look to bounce back when they host Ventnor on Saturday.

Rowledge’s second team were rained off at the Recreation Ground after reaching a total of 206 for nine, with Ben Davidson (49) and Bertie Chilcott (35) the pick of the batters.

Rowledge’s third team fell to a seven-wicket defeat at Crown Taverners. Thomas Le Marchant (51) top scored as Rowledge were bowled out for 209, but the hosts knocked off the runs in the 40th over.
