Clanfield’s first team fell to a four-wicket defeat against Kerala’s fourth team in Division Five South East of the Hampshire Cricket League on Saturday.
Clanfield elected to bat and found the going tough. A slow outfield and variable pitch meant runs were hard to come by. Only Tommy Hughes (13) and James MacGregor (30 not out) reached double figures as Clanfield were bowled out for 84 in 36 overs.
Although Kerala lost two wickets to Mickey Roussow and Kuthubudeen Abdul Malikoo, their dogged response saw them make good progress towards the target. While the change of bowlers bought some hope to Clanfield with Hughes taking three wickets, the result was inevitable with Kerala scoring the winning runs in the 26th over.
Clanfield’s first team will host Solent Rangers’ second team on Saturday.
Clanfield’s second team beat Purbrook’s third team by 32 runs in Division Six South East of the Hampshire Cricket League on Saturday.
Clanfield lost three early wickets before Ed Milford hit a quickfire 19 to take the score to 59 for four. Alex Graham and John Windebank added 49 for the fifth wicket before Windebank was dismissed just after the 20th over. When Kris Lane fell Clanfield were 131 for six, but Ben Cox (37 not out) and Graham (107) took advantage of any loose bowling to add 84 for the seventh wicket. Cox and Roy Goulding added another 30 runs as Clanfield scored 245 for seven off 40 overs.
Cox (three for 18) opened the bowling and produced a superb spell. With the score on 77 for three at the 20th over, the arrival of rain meant an enforced break. The game restarted shortly afterwards, but only five more overs were possible before the game was stopped with the score at 101 for three, with Purbrook 33 runs short of an adjusted target of 134 to win.
Clanfield’s second team will travel to Fareham & Crofton’s fourth team on Saturday.
Clanfield’s Sunday team fell to a 19-run defeat against Knowle Village.
Knowle were bowled out for 171 in the 40th over, and Clanfield were restricted to 152 for four off 40 overs.
