Bordon martial artist Mylee Hedges has been shortlisted for the Young Champion of the Year award at the Sporting Champions Mentoring Awards.

This marks the second consecutive year that the 15-year-old martial artist has been recognised for her achievements and dedication to her sport.

The awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday, October 30, at Porchester Hall in London.

Sporting Champions is an initiative by Everyone Active that provides talented athletes across the UK with free access to leisure facilities, alongside mentoring and support. The scheme aims to nurture the next generation of sports stars.

Mylee, who competes in karate and taekwondo, has had an impressive year.

At the NMAC East of England Martial Arts Championships, Mylee won seven golds, one silver and one bronze. At the TAGB English Championships, she secured gold in individual sparring, gold in team sparring, bronze in patterns and bronze in team patterns.

At the Kibou competition in Redditch, Mylee won five golds and two silvers, despite often competing against older athletes.

At the ESKF International Karate Championships, Mylee won two golds in individual kata and one silver in kumite. At the TAGB Welsh Championships she took home gold in team sparring and silver in patterns.

Mylee continued her winning streak at the Middlesex Open with two golds in kata, one silver in weapons and one bronze in kumite.

She also excelled at the BTC Championships, winning gold in individual sparring, gold in patterns and silver in team sparring.

At the WMAGC Welsh Open, Mylee swept the competition with golds in individual kata, weapons, all styles kata, kumite and all styles open, earning the grand champion belt and £100.

At the EMAGC European Games, Mylee became an 11-time European champion and won four silver medals, competing in categories with athletes aged 18 and over.

Mylee won bronze in kata at the WGKF in Austria and placed in the top ten in kumite. She secured gold in patterns and sparring at the GTI National Taekwondo Competition.
