THREE students from Treloar School were the stars of the show earlier this month when they attended the annual Mansion House fundraising dinner in London.
Amy, Henry and Mike gave sparkling performances which included solos from each student as well as enthusiastic audience participation by the 250 guests present.
The students were helped to prepare for the event by Jocelyn Watkins, head of music at the school. Jocelyn has prepared students for this event for a number of years and always enjoys taking them to perform in such an amazing venue, said a school spokesman.
The spokesman added: “The students always get such a great reception at Mansion House and it is a wonderful opportunity for them to show off their talents.
“Henry, Amy and Mike were fabulous and took singing solos to such a large audience in their stride.
“They should be proud of themselves and for representing the school so well.
“The audience really enjoyed joining in with our three-part Makaton signing song, something we’ll try and do again.
“Overall, it was a truly lovely event and we feel fortunate to be able to be part of this special gala dinner.”
Anne Edward, parent of a Treloar School student, was the keynote speaker and received a standing ovation from guests after her speech on her son’s transition through the school.
The annual event, hosted this year by Lord Mayor of London Alderman Alan Yarrow, raised a record net profit of £54,000 for the Treloar Trust.
This money will help buy various pieces of equipment and support a number of projects at Treloar’s, including the Belong project, which aims to assist parents of disabled children from birth to pre-school age to plan for their children’s futures and ensure they can access the support and guidance they need.
