IT proved to be a day to remember for one Kingsley schoolgirl after her four-year-old miniature wire-haired Dachshund Gregan put his best paw forward to help her claim a prestigious prize at Crufts.

Gregan was one of 22,000 happy, healthy dogs at Birmingham’s NEC for the world’s largest dog show on March 9, competing alongside Tegan Nicholson in the Young Kennel Club’s Handling competition for six to 11 year olds.

Presented by the Kennel Club, this year’s Crufts marked the 126th renewal of the famous show, which attracts dogs and owners from all over the world, as well as thousands of visitors over the course of the four days.

And after enjoying their own moment in the spotlight, Binsted Primary School pupil Tegan couldn’t be more delighted with Gregan’s performance in the West Midlands after they walked away with third place.

“I’m just so happy to have been on the podium at Crufts,” said 10-year-old Tegan.

“I was really nervous coming here today and to have my name called out in the top three was really special.

“When I was out there I turned the wrong way on the up and down section so I didn’t think we had a chance.

“I love Gregan. When we were coming here today he wouldn’t leave my side, he’s made me really proud.”
