Alton Town Council was “deeply saddened” to learn of the death of former town mayor and councillor Patrick “Paddy” Mendham on December 27.

A town council spokesperson said: “Paddy will be sadly missed and remembered fondly for being a stalwart of the local community in which he served twice as town mayor, from 1995-96 and again in 2005-06.

“Paddy also represented the council on two outside bodies, namely the Alton Community Hospital Stakeholders – Communication Group, as well as Alton United Charities.”

Paddy’s family have arranged a service of thanksgiving which will be held on January 11 at 1pm at the Church of St Lawrence in Alton, with afternoon refreshments being served following the service. All who knew Paddy are welcome.
