ANSTEY Junior School’s Let’s Build It! project received a £1,000 boost thanks to a donation from Alton Eastbrooke district councillor Paula Langley.

The project aims to raise £145,000 to build a community facility on the school site.

Planning permission has already been granted for a stand alone, single storey, modular build to provide a community space, private meeting areas, conferencing and group learning area with kitchen and toilet facilities.

The additional space will support the school’s moto to ‘aim high, no limits’ by providing a dedicated area to hold parental engagement sessions, Timid to Tiger parenting classes, cooking events and other family activities. During the school day it would provide a learning space for pupils to benefit from small group working and mentoring sessions.

A school spokesman said: “Currently every space is utilised across the building, even the stationery cupboard has been converted into a learning hub!”

With the community building in place, the intention also is to have sessions where pupils and those in the community who may be experiencing isolation or loneliness can complete activities together.

“As part of this vision the school has already created links with community adult care providers.

Those wishing to support the project can buy a ‘virtual brick’ or make a donation. All donations over £30 will be included in a thank you book to celebrate the role of the community in coming together to build the new facility.
