A Treloar’s student is feeling bowled over after landing a place on the ParalympicsGB team at the Paris 2024 games.
Sally Kidson will travel to the French capital later this summer to compete with the GB boccia squad at the Paralympic Games.
The 19-year-old is “grateful beyond words” for the call-up and will make her Paralympic debut alongside former Treloar’s students Will Arnott and David Smith OBE.
The former – a Treloar’s patron – will offer plenty of experience to Sally as Britain’s most decorated boccia player will be competing in his fifth Paralympic Games
“I am absolutely over the moon to be able to represent Boccia UK and the ParalympicsGB team at the Paris 2024 games,” said Sally.
“Competing in the Paralympic Games is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I am grateful beyond words to have been selected.”
Boccia is a sport similar to bowls of bocce where athletes throw, kick or propel a leather ball towards a jack. The sport does not have an Olympic equivalent, but Treloar’s has a rich history of producing international quality players.
She said: “I am really excited to continue to build the momentum we have begun this year within the BC3 Pair and am looking forward to continuing to develop within the individual competition amongst a field of fierce competitors.
“It's been a crazy journey so far, filled with challenges, triumphs, and many, many hours of hard work, but I can't wait to see what lies ahead and continue the journey at my first Paralympic games.”
