Demolition and excavation waste could be recycled at a quarry near Farnham as part of an expansion plan revealed by its new owners.
Down to Earth Developments (DTE) from Guildford and Warwickshire-based GRS have formed a joint venture with both taking a 50 per cent in Alton Road Aggregates.
The partners believe the site – which has an operational lifespan of more than ten years – is ideal for recycling demolition and excavation waste.
The partners plan to grow the business and also have set their sights on other potential operations across Surrey and Hampshire.
Their hope is to supply the local market and GRS bagging plants west of London with sand from the Alton Road quarry, while taking in inert demolition and excavation waste to restore and landscape the site, subject to planning permission.
“We’re proud of our track record in land reclamation and recovery, and we have the expertise, experience and management systems to deliver exemplar schemes,” said Ben Maclean, owner of DTE.
“Getting together with GRS is a massive boost to the development and remediation of the Alton Road site.
“We’ll be working with the local community, councils and agencies to ensure that restoration is to the highest standards for the benefit of people and wildlife alike.”
Jon Fisher, chief executive of GRS, called the joint venture with DTE “a natural next step for both businesses.”
He added: “We have been working with the team at DTE for a while.
“This joint venture gives us a foothold in this part of the South East and a strong platform for growth, with the potential to turn construction spoil into new aggregate in line with our vision to accelerate circularity in construction.”
