Your bins have had a redesign as East Hampshire District Council has changed the design of their bin hangers.
The design has been updated to simplify the message about recycling and let people who receive it know what they did wrong and what they need to do next time in order to have their waste recycled.
East Hampshire distributes the hangers to residents if a member of the bin collection team has looked in your bin and found materials that can’t be recycled in East Hampshire.
The council can currently only recycle paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, tins and cans and empty aerosol cans. As well as any excess recycling in a dry cardboard box or clear plastic bag.
Items that cannot be recycled could lead to the recycling centre being contaminated slowing down the process of recycling items such as
- The wrong types of plastic - The council can currently only take bottles
- Glass - The council provides glass boxes for glass waste
- Textiles - should be disposed of through textile banks
- Garden waste - should be composted, taken to the tip or put in your garden waste bin
- Batteries - these can cause bin lorry fires if not disposed of correctly and can be taken to the tip
- Tetrapaks - are mixed plastics and should go in your refuse (green) bin
If your recycling bin has been tagged will need to remove the contaminated products and the rubbish will be collected by the crew on your next scheduled collection day.
