The film Elvis (12A) - on October 20 at 7pm - will be the first of a series to be shown at the Alton Assembly Rooms.
It tells the story of Elvis’s rise to stardom, steered by his enigmatic manager Colonel Parker (Tom Hanks). The complex dynamic between them is maintained over 20 years, set against an evolving cultural landscape, the loss of innocence in America and Elvis’s relationship with his wife and family. Doors and the bar open at 6.30pm.
Room (15), at 7pm on November 3, tells the story of a woman and her young son, him captive since birth, becoming free, and him seeing the world outside for the first time.
The Apartment (PG), on November 17, is a classic romantic comedy. Seeking promotion, C C Baxter (Jack Lemmon) lends his apartment to colleagues to use for extramarital affairs.
La Grande Vadrouille (PG), at 3pm on December 1, is the comic misadventures of two French civilians and a downed British bomber crew’s grand escape.
Cabaret (15), at 3pm on December 15, is the story of a starry-eyed singer (Liza Minnelli) who romances two men in 1931 Berlin.
