MEDSTEAD Primary School has scooped top prize at the Amery Hill School primary athletics competition.

The annual competition involved eight primary schools from across the Alton area, with Medstead joining The Butts, Bentworth, Chawton, Rowledge, Wooteys, Alton Infants and Binsted. Each school fielded teams of eight children (four boys and four girls) from each year group for the annual competition.

Each child participated in one individual event and then came together for the year group relay at the end of the afternoon. Individual events included the 60m sprint, standing broad jump, bean bag throw, javelin, 400m, and an obstacle course.

Medstead impressed with six trophies. The year one boys, year three boys, year five girls and year six boys were all year group winners, but then the key stage one boys and key stage two girls were overall key stage winners of the whole event.

Rob Day, PE co-ordinator and head of key stage one for Medstead Primary School, said: “The best thing for me was to see the smiles on all the children’s faces. They all had a marvellous time and it was a joy to see all the schools working together in teams. I was, of course, especially proud of all my Medstead team and we were delighted to be named overall winners.”
