CONCERNS surrounding a possible increase in lorry movements have been addressed as changes to operations from Holybourne Oil Terminal come into effect.
While able to confirm that this week will see the last train from Holybourne to Fawley Refinery, a spokesman from operator IGas Energy said that this doesn’t necessarily mean trains will stop entirely.
Nor, she added, does it “necessarily mean more lorries” on district roads. In fact, she said it could “potentially” be fewer as it depends on what is routed where and by what means.
“Our Holybourne oil terminal utilises road, rail and pipeline facilities in its routine operation and this will continue to be the position,” she said.
“We also have the ability to export oil, via rail, to several different refineries from Holybourne.”
The changes are commercially driven and are thought to be the result of equipment at Esso’s Fawley Refinery being discontinued.
