Two men with a long history of voluntary activity have been recognised for their selfless efforts by the people of Liss.

Tom Collard and Iain Neasom have played a major role in the recreational life of the East Hampshire community for decades.

Mr Collard has been heavily involved in the upkeep of Newman Collard Playing Fields for years while Mr Neasom has been the Liss Scouts, Cubs and Beavers for an equally long time.

The pair got their hands on some silverware of their own as they are the joint 2023 winners of the Liss Villager of the Year award.

They received the accolade at the Annual Parish Meeting to rapturous applause with villagers agreeing that both awards were richly deserved.

“Liss is lucky to have so many amazing volunteers, whether individuals or organisations,” said Liss Parish Council chairman Keith Budden.

“Both men have a long history of voluntary activity within the village.

“Tom contributed so much to the upkeep of Newman Collard and other tasks around the village, and is always ready and willing to get involved and help out.

“Iain has been awarded this title for his amazing work in heading up the Scouts, Cubs and Beavers in the village, where his commitment is second to none.”

Certificates were also handed to Liss Forest residents Bob and Gill Elmer for years of fundraising for The Rosemary Foundation and to Emma Glazier for her tireless work with Liss Athletic Football Club’s juniors.

Organisers also praised Penny Tapp for her weekly visits on behalf of St Mary’s Church to East Hill House residential home and thanked former Crossover Youth Centre boss Georgina Leigh for her previous service to the young people of Liss.

There was also a final thank you to Liss in Bloom volunteers for their outstanding floral displays and hanging baskets

The council added: “Thank you to each and every one of you who make Liss the community it is.”
