A painting of Jane Austen’s home in Chawton has been highlighted to help celebrate the 250th anniversary of her birth.
David Haycraft, of Swanage, sent the Herald a photograph of the picture painted by Bournemouth-born artist Heather Simmonds.
He said: “Heather Simmonds’ watercolour gives us a glimpse of the Hampshire village where Jane Austen spent her happiest and most productive years.
“Many visitors to Chawton this spring and summer will take home memories of an English scene little changed in more than 200 years.
“While Jane’s sister Cassandra painted her well known portrait, there are surprisingly very few paintings of the cottage so dear to Jane during the last years of her life.”
Mounted prints of the painting are available at heathersimmonds.co.uk/janeausten
