IF YOU would like to know more about trees PeCAN have an event that should twig your interest.
This Saturday sees the launch of the inaugural Petersfield Tree Festival at the community garden.
Petersfield Climate Action Network have joined forces with the hosts, Tree Council and East Hampshire District Council to run the special event celebrating all things arboricultural.
The festival will be an opportunity to find out more about tree care, planting, pruning, grafting on rootstock and fan training.
There will be free demonstrations as well as expert advice on mini forests, soil suitability and planting for the future with climate change in mind.
The event is aimed at the whole family with plenty of activities aimed at children. Youngsters can learn about seed and tree identification and can get creative with acorns and fairies.
There will also be delicious food on offer from Thai Angle and warming mulled apple juice made by community garden volunteers.
“We are very excited to launch Petersfield Tree Festival,” said Amelia Gabriel, programme manager at PeCAN.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity for people from across our community to learn more about trees and why they are so important.”
The festival is part of the Fruit Tree in Every Garden project, and anyone who has ordered and paid for a £12 fruit tree can collect it at the event. PeCAN has distributed 950 trees over the previous three winters but wants to add another 1,000 to that total this time round.
The festival will take place from 10am to 3.30pm with visitors encouraged to walk, cycle or lift-share.
Wellies are strongly recommended while motorists are asked to park on Long Road and access the site on foot. To order a fruit tree or to find out more about the festival, please visit www.petersfieldcan.org/projects/trees
