THE candidates standing for the Bramshott & Liphook ward in the East Hampshire District Council elections on May 7 are:

Candidates: Michael Croucher (Lib Dem), Angela Glass (Conservative), Don Jerrard (Justice & Ani-Corruption Party), Jeanette Kirby (Lib Dem), Trevor Maroney (Lib Dem), Bill Mouland (Conservative), Ann Saunders (Labour), Dennis Slark (Labour), Rebecca Standish (Conservative), Dr John Tough (Labour)

MICHAEL CROUCHER (Lib Dem)

Michael and family has lived in Liphook for 42 years and has been a parish councillor for 32 years, including a term as district councillor. As parish council chairman, he has considerable working knowledge of Council structure, enabling him to ensure the district council performs well over its next four-year term at both district and parish levels.

As a trustee of the East Hampshire Citizens' Advice Bureau, Heritage Centre, River Wey Trust and the Preservation Society and a LiDBA member for nearly 40 years, Michael has a good understanding of the parish's social infrastructure and residents' needs.

ANGELA GLASS (Conservative)

I HAVE lived in Bramshott for eight years with my husband. We have three children, 10 grandchildren and two dogs. Elected a district councillor in 2011, I am chairman of the River Wey Trust and the local Conservatives, and I am on the Youth Club and Bramshott Educational Trust committees. I am portfolio holder for planning for East Hampshire District Council and also enjoy helping local residents and organisations, especially when securing grants for the U3A, the day centre, restoration of the war memorial, a defibrillator, and others. I love Bramshott and Liphook and look forward to doing much more in future.

DON JERRARD (Justice & Anti-Corruption Party)

I'M a retired solicitor who has lived near Liphook since 1988. I was elected to the parish council in 2011, was chairman of its planning committee for three years, and am now vice-chairman. I introduced procedures for the parish council to express the views of the parishioners at East Hampshire District Council and the South Downs National Park planning committee meetings. With other councillors, I arranged the enquiry into problems within the parish council, which are now resolved. I want to represent the residents of Liphook so that their views can be democratically and independently represented at the district council.

JEANETTE KIRBY (Lib Dem)

Jeanette has lived in Bramshott since 2006, close to her two children and four small grandchildren. After a number of years in business and accounting, Jeanette returned to education gaining an honours degree in environmental science, followed by a diploma in countryside management. She has worked for several years with the Surrey Wildlife Trust in both administrative and practical roles, with particular experience in heathland management. Jeanette has been a Bramshott and Liphook parish councillor since 2012, has worked on the local parish plan, is a member of the River Wey Conservation Trust and is involved in with Friends of Radford Park.

TREVOR MARONEY (Lib Dem)

TREVOR is a retired accountant, civil engineer, school bursar and army officer. He has lived in Liphook for 17 years and has been a parish councillor since 2012.

After military service, Trevor worked in mixed, preparatory and senior schools. He is vice-chairman of the council's finance and policy committee and chairman of the Bramshott & Liphook Parish Plan.

If elected, Trevor aims to address the community's need for more local shops, employment, sports pitches and facilities and parking, along with better disabled access to the station and less traffic congestion – essential infrastructure improvements if Liphook is to remain sustainable.

BILL MOULAND (Conservative)

I HAVE lived in Liphook with my wife Jenny for nearly 30 years. Our three children were brought up here.

For 20 years I commuted to London where I worked as a journalist for the Today newspaper and then the Daily Mail. I was elected to East Hampshire District Council in 2011 and, as well as representing people in Bramshott and Liphook, I oversee communications for the whole council. It is rewarding work, whether it is standing up for residents, trying to find the football club a new ground, directing grants to community groups, or securing a Portland stone waymarker for the Shipwright's Way.

ANN SAUNDERS (Labour)

BASED in Liphook since 1998 I have seen substantial change. As an environmental scientist, I'm particularly interested in the environment. Development of a superstore, the Millenium Centre and nearby housing has brought many improvements but introduced problems elsewhere. For instance, the shopping parade in Station Road has at times struggled with reduced trade and empty shops. Limited public transport in more rural areas leaves the young and old less able to get around for work and leisure. Housing prices present problems for young people hoping to buy or rent. I will press for opportunities for affordable housing to be carefully considered.

DENNIS SLARK (Labour)

I HAVE lived in Liphook and Bramshott for 52 years and am married with two daughters and three grandchildren. Before I retired I owned and ran 3 Counties Taxis with a partner in Haslemere for 20 years. Previously, I was a representative on a works council. My hobbies include photography, walking, petanque, conservation work, and I am a South Downs Way warden. I am a supporter of various animal charities and a member of the Liphook ramblers and U3A. I would like to see less bad development and more conservation in Bramshott and Liphook and better public transport.

REBECCA STANDISH (Conservative)

MY husband Nigel and I and our two children moved to Griggs Green in 1998. I have a strong business background, primarily in live event management and marketing, and have been involved in a number of successful businesses over the last 25 years. With this experience and my love of the area, I believe I can add to the process of decision making for the parish of Bramshott and Liphook, helping to arrive at acceptable solutions. This is a growing community with one of the best state schools in the country and offers huge opportunities to individuals, families and businesses.

Dr JOHN M TOUGH (Labour)

I HAIL from Yorkshire but have lived in Liphook for the last 38 years. I am a transport planning consultant and have worked in many countries around the world. I had been a member of Bramshott & Liphook Parish Council for 12 years leading on transport issues, resigning when the previous clerk was unjustly dismissed. However, I continue to seek solutions to Liphook's transport problems. I have been active in Liphook Youth Club with and since its formation six years ago. Now it has lost county funding, I am appalled at the current absence of support for Hampshire youth.
