Haslemere Swimming Club held a meet last Sunday (October 16) to celebrate the arrival of the club’s racing blocks for junior swimmers.
The club held a fundraising drive in the summer for the blocks, and its Crowdfunder page raised £18,074.
Funding from Sport England took the final total to more than £21,000.
Sarah Scholes, who is responsible for fundraising and sponsorship at the club, said: “It was a monumental effort to raise the money from such a small club. We would not have been able to do it without the kind and incredibly generous support of local businesses in Haslemere who offered donations for our Crowdfunder campaign and supported us on social media.
“The final donation, which took us over the amount we needed, was by our lifelong president Don Stacey. The blocks are bespoke for the pool at Haslemere Leisure Centre.
“We received exceptionally generous donations from charities Shottermill Great War Memorial Fund and Haslemere Penny Ha’Penny Trust, and support from Haslemere Town Council, Surrey County ASA and Sport England.
“We also secured sponsorship from Howden’s Speciality, Knight Frank and St Edmund’s School.
“Thank you to the incredible people of Haslemere and beyond who supported us – it would not have been achievable without their support and we are so grateful.”
