Volunteers at a canine charity based in North East Hampshire are preparing for an “extreme walkies” to give racing greyhounds a happy retirement.

Six fundraisers from Greyhound Lifeline and some of their four-legged friends will attempt to walk 40 miles from Bentley to Southampton over the August 31 weekend.

The charity wants to raise £4,000 – or £100 for every mile – to fund a paddock for the retired racing greyhounds they foster to run in.

The group will leave East Hampshire at 7am and hope to arrive at Parklife Café around 3pm the next day.

Greyhounds are bred to race and usually retire at between four and six years. As they generally live until they are 12 to 14 they need new homes, so charities such as Greyhound Lifeline foster them and help socialise them for life outside greyhound kennels.
