An historic church near Alton will reap the benefits of flower power this weekend as nine villagers are opening their garden gates to the public.

People around Froyle and Newton Valence will show off their green-fingered handiwork this weekend as part of the National Open Gardens Scheme.

Nearly a dozen gardens around the former will be open from 1.30pm to 6pm throughout the weekend with more details at www.froyleopengardens.org.uk

A further nine of varying sizes and styles will be opened around Newton Valence from 2pm to 5pm this Sunday, June 2, with two taking part in the scheme for the first time.

Visitors will get the chance to wander around a cottage, walled, pergola, courtyard and newly established garden with another boasting an impressive view.

Teas will be available in one garden and a plant stall in another while stalls offering bric-a-brac, home produce and children’s clothes in toys will be set up by the pond.

The church will be open and adorned with flowers and the village’s wild flower meadow is also worth a visit.

The cost is £7.50 per person, free for under 16s, with all proceeds going to St Mary’s Newton Valance, assistance dogs only.
