Double glazing, insulation and carbon reduction measures are set to be installed at the Edgar Hall headquarters of Alton Men’s Shed.

Alton Men’s Shed has obtained a £9,000 grant towards the cost of the work from East Hampshire District Council’s Community Climate Action Fund.

A condition of the grant was that Alton Town Council should confirm its intention to lease the building from the district council for community use for at least ten years.

The town council agreed to this unanimously at its full council meeting in the Alton Assembly Rooms on January 8.

Speaking in support, Cllr Matthew Bayliss said: “It fits with our strategy of responding to climate change and it’s a great use of the building.”
