Liphook Bike Ride has raised more than £1m for local causes and celebrated its 30th outing this year – but the celebrations were premature as the event was the last one.

The organising committee has said: “Sadly, the ride is no longer viable because of a dramatic fall in numbers since the pandemic and we will no longer be organising it.

“We would like to thank everyone who has been involved, and extend special thanks to the founders, Liphook Business Men’s Association, known as LiDBa, the marshals and volunteer helpers, Liphook Guides, Liphook Scouts, Bordon and Petersfield air cadets, Bohunt School, East Hampshire District Council, our loyal sponsors, and to all the fantastic riders and supporters who have taken part.”

The ride was started by LiDBa in 1990, and apart from two missed years during the pandemic, has been ridden every year since.

Riders’ entry fees are split between covering costs and local charities.

The ride has raised money for Liphook Scouts, Liphook Guides, Bordon Air Training Corps cadets and Bramshott Educational Trust and other local charities.

A trust spokesman said: “We are grateful for the grants over many years from the Liphook Bike Ride, formerly the LiDBa Bike Ride. This has enabled us to help young people with a variety of educational endeavours such as school trips, music and ballet lessons, and buying books and specialist equipment.”
