Silence will descend on Alton and Holybourne this weekend as we remember those who gave their tomorrow for our today.

Details of this year’s Remembrance Day Services have been confirmed with organisers making a small but welcome change.

Forces veterans and serving personnel of all ranks are invited to parade at both events, with the hand being extended to anyone who has served or is currently serving in the HM Armed Forces.

The Holybourne event will take place on Saturday with participants gathering at Andrews Endowed Primary School from 10.15am onwards.

The service will take place at 10.45am at the London Road memorial with pipes from the Rose and Thistle Band.

The Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Alton mayor, Cllr Annette Eyre, and East Hampshire MP, Damian Hinds, are all expected to attend the service.

Veterans and personnel wishing to take part in the Alton parade should gather in the Market Square at 10am on Sunday for the form up and 10.30am march to the cairn.

There is no need to “book” a place on the parade, with the service including the customary sounding of the Last Post, laying of wreaths and reading of the Kohima Epitaph and Exhortation.

Former town councillor and mayor of Alton, Derek Gardner, said: “This initiative follows discussions with fellow veterans who suggested the inclusion of former service personnel in the Holybourne and Alton Remembrance Parades should be re-commenced having ceased some years ago.”

The Town Council is grateful to Warrant Officer, Tom Bagley, from the 613 Squadron Air Training Corps who is Parade Marshall at Holybourne.

The Parade Marshall for Alton’s service will be Dave Parsons, as the town crier is also a former Regimental Sergeant Major. For more details about either parade call ATC on 01420 83986 or email [email protected]
