A programme of summer events in the heart of Alton has been threatened because of mindless vandals.

A marquee in the Public Gardens has been removed by Alton Town Council just weeks after its installation.

The structure was intended to host a variety of community events like the Alton Harvest Show over the coming weeks.

But that all changed when a group of teenagers left a hole in the structure after climbing onto it and bouncing around 8.45pm last Wednesday (July 24).

The council has clear CCTV footage of those response but has expressed its “deep disappointment” about the vandalism.

They stated: “The marquee was intended for community events and public use throughout the summer.

“Their actions have forced us to remove the marquee, significantly impacting our summer events including WellBeing Wednesdays, Selfcare Sundays, Picnic in the Park, Fun Fridays and Flavourfest.”

The footage has been handed to the police, witnesses should call 101 quoting DA4516-24-4444-00 or the Town Hall on 01420 83986.
