Alton community interest company Creating Crafts and Blooms celebrated World Crochet Day on September 12 in style by fundraising for and raising awareness of Dementia-Friendly Alton.

Setting up its stall in the grounds of the Assembly Rooms, the group Alton Hook and Yarn ran a tombola and craft table, and served home-made cream teas.

Taking the Dementia-Friendly emblem, the forget-me-not flower, as its inspiration, and hosted by Creating Crafts and Blooms, the group created brooches, key rings, lavender bags and other items for its stall.

The top tombola prizes were a beautifully hand-made forget-me-not blanket and a cushion, both won by local people.

Alton Hook and Yarn meets at the Assembly Rooms on Mondays from 10am to midday.

Its main project, Giving the Gift of Warmth, invites people to make granny squares which are made into blankets and gifted to local people vulnerable to the cold.
