Altonians have been urged to pack their picnic baskets and come together for a very special lunch date.

The town council are serving up a treat as they’re hosting a Picnic in the Park in Alton Public Gardens this Sunday, June 2.

The Community Big Lunch event is part of a national initiative by the Eden Project that aims to bring people together through the simple act of a picnic.

Organisers have laid on a treat as the Alton Concert Band will serenade picnickers with live music and tunes with a D-Day 80 theme as the anniversary approaches.

“Be a part of this unforgettable day,” said a spokesperson for the town council.

“Share in the community buzz and enjoy the lush surroundings of Alton’s Public Gardens. Pack your picnic basket and get ready for an afternoon of joy and connection.”

The Big Lunch will begin at 1pm, all welcome.
