Alton’s Anna Chaplain Kate Powell has received a donation of £1,000 raised at the coffee mornings held every Tuesday in Alton Methodist Church.
Anna Chaplains are trained to provide pastoral and spiritual care to older members of their local community - people of all faiths and none.
Kate’s role is funded jointly by the Parish of the Resurrection and Alton Methodist Church, and is currently supported by East Hampshire District Council through its communities fund.
Making the cheque presentation to Kate were Christine Allan and Angela Scott - two of the regular coffee makers - Revd Andrew Micklefield and Revd Philip Simpkins.
Kate also gets to know older people around Alton through her series of Growing Old Gracefully interviews published in the Herald, which began when she talked to 100-year-old Penny Carmichael in August 2022.
