A circus is in a high-wire dispute with Haslemere Town Council after being forced to cancel several performances at Lion Green in the wake of the Queen’s death.
Jay Miller’s Circus had been set to perform over five days from Wednesday, September 7 to Sunday, September 11.
But after Queen Elizabeth II’s death was announced on September 8, the town council asked the circus to cease trading over the weekend.
The circus is seeking £1,800 in costs, and free use of Lion Green next year. But the town council has agreed to stand firm by its original offer of just £900.
With the exception of 2020, Jay Miller’s Circus has delighted crowds at Lion Green, Haslemere, every year since 2015.
The circus was founded in Broughton, Hampshire, in 1987 and tours throughout southern England annually.
