A team from Chiddingfold Surgery have challenged themselves to complete the Great South Run tomorrow (Sunday) to raise funds for the Hunter Centre and Cardiomyopathy UK.

GP partner Dr Darren Watts said: “Our practice nurse Henny’s son-in-law Oli discovered in January last year that the feeling which was making him feel odd – dizziness, vagueness and shortness of breath – was actually as a result of hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy.

“With the support of the NHS and thanks to all the research into the different forms of cardiomyopathy – in essence thickening of the heart muscle affecting blood flow – by Cardiomyopathy UK, he underwent major open-heart surgery, which within days gave him his life back.

“He is no longer dizzy and breathless and his risk of a fatal cardiac event has reduced to near-normal levels.”
