Alton Morris is holding a free morris dancing taster session at Alton Infant School in Victoria Road on October 4 at 8pm.
All men and women interested in dancing or playing music are welcome. The side spend the autumn and winter practising every Friday in the school to prepare for dancing outside from April onwards.
It is a sociable and friendly activity, and a fantastic way of getting fit. Last year’s new recruits cannot wait to start practising again as they had so much fun this year.
They attended local events such as Regency Day and Harvest Festival in Alton, and danced with other morris sides at local pubs.
They also performed at folk festivals in Sidmouth, Swanage and Wallingford, where they were welcomed and appreciated by enthusiastic crowds.
The highlight of the year was dancing in Hong Kong at Easter as guests of Hong Kong Morris.
New member Katie Eveleigh said: “The sense of energy and excitement to the dancing caught my eye at the start. I could see the dancers were having fun so I went to a taster session last year. Since then I’ve made some good friends and I’m really having a great time.”
Anyone unfamiliar with Alton Morris can see them perform at the apple tasting in Blackmoor on October 13 at either 12.30pm or 1.30pm. There will even be a chance to join in.
