THE 1st and 3rd Alton Brownies came together for a sleepover on Friday night to celebrate their 100th birthday. This followed a month of activities and challenges to mark their centenary. The Brownies designed patterns on glass candle holders and bunting to decorate their headquarters on Chawton Park Road, before finishing the evening with a campfire, singing and toasting marshmallows to make s'mores. The following day the girls took part in Star Quest – a collection of tasks and challenges concerned with the past, present and future of Brownies. These included keeping fit, cooking, craft and knots. After lunch they had their hair styled and nails painted before enjoying their 100th birthday party which included food they had helped prepare – pizza, Anzac biscuits and cakes. Leader Anne Davies said the event was a "fitting end" to the last few weeks of celebrations. "Everyone had a great time and Brownies and leaders alike left exhausted at the end of a busy but memorable occasion," she added.
